Looking for 80+# spine arrows, found what I was after
« on: March 18, 2018, 05:41:39 am »
I’m looking for some heavy spines arrow shafts. I’m not too concerned about the material. I have some heavy bows I’d like to shoot in but haven’t made any arrow shafts with enough spine or mass. And have been lazy about making shafts lately. So if anyone has any heavy spines and mass arrow shafts laying around they aren’t using and are atleast 32” long. I have hickory and black locust staves, and dried but not tanned raccoon hides I can trade.
I do have some boards I can turn into heavy 3/8” shafts, but am waiting for access to a wide blade bandsaw to save on cutoff over a table saw. It might be a little bit before we take the time to rip stuff in te bandsaw.

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle,

Let me dig through my boxes tonight.  I picked up a bunch of shafts last year, and there were some that were very heavy. Sounds like you are making warbow arrows.

Yup, I’m wanting to put together some light warbow arrows to play with until My buddy can get his forge setup and we can make some 1/2” bodkins. Though they will still be a bit heavy for shooting out of the ~100# bows.
And I like to shoot heavier bows for most of my shooting. I’m working on 70# at my 26” draw. With hopes of working my way higher. So they will need some heavy arrows too.
I appreciate you looking. If you find some heavy spine arrows you want to part with, just let me know what you would like for them.

I know I've got some in the 70# range.  I'll put a list together tonight, if I have time.
Are you interested in shafts only, or finished arrows also?  There are some finished ones in the upper 60's and low 70's.

Mostly shafts to use out of the 100# warbows. but I won’t fuss about some finished ones  to use out of my normal shooter.

If you are interested in cane shafts
I've got some heavy spine river cane shafts that where cut a couple years ago
some are 70, 80 and 90 and four spined at 100
Most of these weigh a little more than 700 grains

Here’s a couple quick pictures of the hides. The larger coons are 32”, 28”, and 30” from nose to base of tail stretched on 7.5” wide boards. The smaller are around 27” on a 6” board. I would’ve taken more or better pictures but my phone had 1% battery while taking them.
