Rick, those do look like polyps. I've never seen coral like that, though. I'd say whack on it and see if it works, no heat.

It’s not a nodule, It’s just the empty shell of a dead coral, lots of them around here

Yeah, lesson learned, don’t try to knap stuff with this many inclusions, knaps like concrete and the flakes dont travel
