I agree with ED. Is it worth the chance of getting injured? It's never happened to me but I've known a few folks that had to have splintered arrow shafts surgically removed from their forearm or hand.

By all means  do a wrap in front of your nock.if done nicely it is not only safer but attractive.your thread or sinew can be colored to accent your fletching.
