Thumbring or Finger?

I am wanting to try using a thumb ring and not sure if the string rests on the inside of the thumb or is resting in a groove on the ring. Maybe there are some of both type in use. I'm making one from bone and not sure how to proceed.

Also, is there such a thing as an Index finger ring for the right hand that would allow shooting arrow from left side of bow and give the similar torque as the thumb ring and arrow on the right?

Both types of thumb rings are used.  Generally the user’s find (but not always) the simpler - the one without a secondary groove -  to starts with.

Nota bene : The sized of the ring - the slightly oval - is CRUCIAL .

Not as far I know know .  The modern Mongolian (circa the 1930’s) used either hand . . .

I usually use a ring like the first.  I place the string right on the edge of the ring against my thumb when I draw.  Before my sickness two years ago I could pull 120# with it.  I'd like to learn to use the Manchu style ring as well.

Thanks to you both for the Info.

Here's a few shots of the ring  made. Needs polishing up and might put a thin leather pad on inside back of thumb. What you think? Will it break my thumb?
 Also, I'm gonna give the finger ring a try and see. Break a thumb, might as well make a finger to match right?  (--)

Your thumb ring should have a semicircular or almost flat profile of the bearing surface.
(See green circled detail picture . . .)

Not the present profile of your ring  (see red circled detail pictures . . .).
  Otherwise it will slip badly and create misfired or worse.
