Bopper condition?

How ratty do you let your boppers get before replacing them? I have lead coming thru my small bopper and the medium head flew off today....just ordered a new set. :-K

PaulC, as soon as mine get a hole in them and I see lead I change, your other option is to buy a solid head bopper, probably last a long long time. I started with the caps and have tried switching to solid. Caps are softer than solid copper and I just like them better and never could quite get used to a solid bopper. I am changing caps  3 times a year so. :( Bob

Hawkdancer:
How often would you need to change an antler bopper?  Right now, none of my tools have to worry about longevity, though! :-K :KN (lol)!

If it flies off and don't have a hole worn through, it gets glued back on.
Once it gets a hole in it though, it's over.
My boppers always seem to be work the best right before the hole appears, then I have to change it out and retrain the replacement to work like the old one did which takes about as long as wearing the hole does

mullet:
I glue my caps back on and then drill a small hole in the tip and drive a copper roofing nail in it.
