Draw Knife Build along - from Old saw blade and basic tools

Very nice!  I have to clean up a handmade one I got in a flea market, it appears to be good steel.

DC - I am not sure - google is probably your best Bet - But cabinet makers (like myself) have been using all sorts of saw blades for woodwork tools for years ,
any sort saw blade even those with Diamond or carbide tips should be hardened steel - not sure how sharp the worst that happens is you sharpen it more often .
But even Older Hand saws make decent Hand Scrapers (have a old Blunt handsaw) - turn into a cabinet scraper -same dont let get to hot
Old Plane Blades (make many things out of including draw knives), old files etc - again dont let metal get to hot unless want the hassle of re-hardening
we have Car boot sales here in summer - i always looking for old cheap tools for 20p can get great steel make stuff.

Hi all,

Mark, DC, just to give you a bit of experimental input...

I made a rough draw knife from an ancient backsaw blade I had lying around. Mostly, it was just because I had never so much as held an angle grinder before, so I figured I'd rather not ruin a piece of good steel.

The epoxy cement holding the handles on is still curing, so I haven't used it intensely yet, but I did use a disc and belt sander to eyeball a single beveled edge onto it.

Thus far it seems to slice quite nicely into my ash stave that I'm preparing. It hasn't lost much sharpness and I've focused all cuts on a single area. When I get home from the office I'll give it a good thrashing and see how it holds up.

Well Done, Excellent Craftsmanship. I have some old saw blades and will have to give this a try now. As if I didn't have enough irons in the fire. John

Definitely give it a try - I am not a blacksmith or know that much about metal but any hard metal will stay hard as long as DO NOT get to hot - lots water , lots cooling and try not get any metal that colour change -

Couple more bits made with the tiny offcuts
Carving knives -
normal knife - all made same steel - and a YEW handle offcuts from last yew bow (brass pins from broken door latch)
