First Yew.
« on: June 02, 2019, 04:27:27 am »
I recently finished this bow for a swap on another site. Its from a pair of billets i got from Wizardgoat some time back. I glued them together in deflex as i was going for a mild deflex reflex but i couldn't  get the reflex to hold. It pulled out the first time at brace so i tillered it out to 24" then heated the reflex in again. The second time it pulled out before i had it back to 24" again. After that i gave up on the reflex and just kept on tillering out to 28".
It ended up being one of the smoothest  drawing  bows I've  ever made and is snappier than i expected and has very little set from where it was before i reflexed it. Still not sure why i couldn't get any reflex to stay.

Very nice. Looks like she fits you good without the reflex. Maybe she knew that.

I agree w/ BJ. Sometimes the wood knows best. Looks like a very smooth shooter. Very nice work!

Really nice balanced looking bend turtle...Never worked Yew but have read that it can be stubborn at times...That can be a good thing...

Love the tip overlays! They always get me no matter what! Its one of the parts that the bowyer can really show himself. Same with the design, handle, string, etc. I really like this bow.

Thanks to all for the kind words. And thanks again Del for letting me pick your brain when i started this bow. I didn't  end up having to thin the sap wood any but it was getting close to nerding it in a couple places.

Looks great, I like the fade transition you did good there and the sapwood contrast.
