Crazy elm recurve
« on: July 03, 2019, 12:34:58 pm »
Hi fellows!
After success on my first recurve I've decided to make another one. I am a bit disappointed about set on this one. Partly because of my imperfect tillering work. I think recurves should be gentler to decrease it. I know the finish I applied isn't traditional but please forgive me guys.  :BB
Yew heartwood tips overlays and leather handle, arrow pass.
About 140 cm ttt, 50lbs at 23".

All the best!  (=)

Not freaking bad! How much set did it take? It seems you are short drawing it, is there a reason for that?

Looks really cool,  the bow is on the short side is that why you are only pulling 23" .

Not bad at all.  I like it.  As a completely unsolicited bit of advice...get a little bend going right out of the fades and you can get another 2 inches of draw length.

Especially on that upper limb.

Thanks for your leads guys. I agree tips could be working too. I estimate it took about 2,5 inches set so that's what makes me worried... String is knotted because I didnt make string to this bow yet and used old one, sorry for that.

The tips dont need to bend more, the inner 3rd of the limbs need to bend more, specifically the upper limb.
