osage selfbow design
« on: August 20, 2019, 07:03:11 am »
For my 4th bow, I’d like to build an osage selfbow, 60-65lb @ 27” draw, with flipped tips.
My proposed design is 65” ntn, 4” long handle, 2” long fades, 1½” wide at fades tapering to 1¼” at midlimb, then tapering to ½” wide tips.
Is this a reasonable design?
Thank you.

I'd go wider and carry it out  past mid-limb.

That sounds like a good design to me, maybe even 1 3/8".  Another option is a straight sides pyramid bow with everything else being the same.

I like it just how you have it. The 65" ntn at 27" will allow it to be more narrow, like the 1.25" you proposed.

Take the ends to 5/16 and the fade to 13/4 to 2” . It will scream if your stave is wide enough. And you do a good tiller. Arvin
Well I'll say!!  Osage is king!!

Fourth bow and  recurved
.  A little extra width can't hurt if the stave is wide enough.

All depends all what your wood and grain ratio looks like.

You can pyramid it but it better be clean or at that weight one little hard or knotted section can be a big issue.

66” and 64” NTN is right in the sweet area if your 27-28” draw
 Sounds like a scram jet!!
