What grit belts

(1/3) > >>

Trapper Rob:
I built a 2x72 in belt grinder was wondering what grit belts do you all like to use.

KHalverson:
Rob
I use 50 and 120 grit the most.
if you give anything that your gonna grind off the forge scale a 24 hour soak in white vinegar it'll greatly save on belts.
forge scale is HARD,

Trapper Rob:
Thanks Kevin

bubby:
And get a scotch Brite belt, 50 120 220 up to 320 or 400 then scothbrite, I really want a scotchbrite

Mesophilic:
What's also important is what the belt is made of.  I prefer ceramic belts for metal.  They cost more but they last longer.  Aluminum oxide just wears out way to fast, especially on steel post heat treat.
