What is going on with this belly?

Came across this image on a bowmakers site.  What is going on with the horn strips on the belly of this bow?  Is it just parallel strips of horn?  Is this an advanced skill thing?  It sure seems like it would make my journey easier.

i read the article that is from he made the belly from side by side strips of horn, with the middle one being a blonde horn.

Yes you can use strips of horn side by side. Any of the wider hornbows used this method. It's one way of getting a good yield out of gemsbok horn.

I'm working on one of these Mongolian replicas now. Using maulflon sheep for the center strip and narrow bighorn strips for the sides. Wish me luck
