Best spoons for spoon arrowheads?
osage outlaw:
Depending on the level of quarantine in your area your best option might be ebay. I did a quick search for vintage spoons on there and quite a few options showed up. If you are wanting to make points from spoons for historical accuracy I think you should use the oldest spoons you can find. Using a brand new "made in China" spoon from walmart doesn't seem right.
If you ever want to make some from modern steel I would suggest picking up a large used bandsaw blade from your local steel supplier. I have got several blades and made trade points and scrapers from them. I prefer bandsaw blades over circular saw blades. The steel is very hard and holds and really holds an edge.
Please post some pictures of your points when you are done with them. It would be cool to see a spoon harvest picture this deer season.

I'm gonna try to do a buildalong. I've made these since I was big enough to hold the hammer without smashing someone. It's a zen kinda thing. I make them heavy since I use long arrows. Besides, I read the Ashby report on EFOC. Sometimes I even weight the tip end. 36" draw makes it work just fine.

This is an option. I have been making arrowheads from the steel bands off of old whiskey barrels. Often they are laying on the ground around the remains of an old half barrel that was used as a planter. They are good thick metal. 5 minutes with a hacksaw and some file work and you have another arrowhead. They take and edge and don't break if you hit a rock. One barrel will make a lot of arrowheads.
