Sting ray barb uses

I caught a decent ray, and before throwing it back, I cut the 8 ish inch long barb off so I didn't get Steve Irwin-ed. So I was thinking of a fishing point with it. Any ideas of actual uses in primitive times?

I understand they make real good broad head points when cured.  Never had one to try though!
