Russell, I shoot through the winter, and usually find one or two the first time I mow in the spring. As Jeff Foxworthy said, "If you've ever mowed your grass and found a car...you might be a redneck." Guess the same goes for arrows.
Jeff, thanks for the laugh. Ever seen the site despair dot com? They have some hillarious de-motivational posters. Your experience reminded me of this one.

That has happened to me a few times at close range, but the damage is limited when I use plastic knocks. All you have to do is cut away the broken plastic and glue on a new knock. Splicing on wooden knocks has sometimes worked too.
