Off-setting limbs
« on: May 05, 2008, 07:04:31 pm »
I have several bows with offset limbs (inadvertantly- they had dried crooked) and the only damage I've seen is on perfectly falt bellies, where it compacts the corner slightly. I know that on a perfectly rectangular cross section this would also pose some problems for the strain on the back as well. If you were to slightly radius the back and belly, would this help reduce the stress, and allow one to safely offset the limbs slightly on a long D bow for all the benefiets?

Yes a slight radius does reduce stress on the edges of a limb, and I guess this would also work on a bow with offset limbs.  However, I don't think it is a great idea to offset limbs on purpose.
