elm bow 50lbs @ 28''
« on: June 05, 2021, 02:04:23 pm »
Hello everybody! Here's my last baby. It's a selfbow made from an elm tree that was cut last winter. I'm not completely satisfied with the tiller, but it's still really nice to shoot. The bow took 2.5'' of set after beeing shot 50 times. The bow has 1,5 inches of string follow directly after being shot and 0.5'' of string follow two hours after. The overlays are made of buffalo horn. The limbs were slightly heat treated.

2,5 of set after 50 shots may be a little strange for a tillering that doesn't look bad?
What length and width? (though length seems enough). Or maybe still a tad wet?

Sweet looking bow! I like the shape of the handle. I've got an elm handle that has to be whittled down a bit, I think I'll use your design as an inspiration. Thanks!

Diliviu: The bow is 66" long for 1 3/4" of width. I think you're right, the wood was maybe too wet. But I always get a lot of set with this elm.

Boomhowzer: Thank you!

That is a very nice looking bow. Well done.
