Arrows made with bamboo toothpicks + epoxy
« on: May 25, 2021, 03:50:52 pm »
Hi guys!

Yeah...  Go easy on me. But I did that.
I made a bunch of arrows using toothpicks + epoxy.
Not the best material, of course.  But worked.

Always good to experiment but I am lazy, I used to run shafts on a router shaft machine I made. The problem is the same board could produce spines from 30 to 70, I had to turn out a lot of shafts to get matched ones, it was easier to buy them.

Have you tried bamboo skewers, longer length more structural integrity.

I think it would be better.  Or at least more resistent.
With toothpicks I got spines from 25 to 35.  I little weak.

I made a set of arrows from single bamboo barbeque skewers.  They fly great.  But the bow is only about 12" long and draws about two pounds at 6".   :OK (SH)

For these to be strong you would want the picks orientated like bricks in a wall. Just dropping them down the tube this is unlikely to occur!
Always good to play about with different ideas though. Have fun :)

Great experiment. Looks like a lot of work! Thanks for letting us watch the condensed version of what I assume was a very tedious process!
