Late night spalling

(1/1)

Allyn T:
Spent an hour last night into dark spalling some more rock I collected. Really starting to get the hang of it. Took the pictures today. In one of the creek cobbles there were silver speckles running through it, might be pyrite, it looks awesome.

gutpile:
lets see a finished piece.. you got spalling down..lol.. gut

Allyn T:
I can show you pictures of broken pieces lol. My direct percussion thinning leaves much to be desired. My initial thinning is good but as soon as it starts looks good I start getting hinges and steps. Then I start chasing thick spots trying to even it out. I either end up too narrow and thick or I break em in half. I show pics of raw material cause I love it : ) so much potential until I start trying to make something out of it

gutpile:
lots of learning process involved.. I still snap them.. usually its when I am thinning the ends, so I try to thin them first.. while the mid is thick enough to handle the shock.. when they get close to thin I switch to pressure..  gut

Allyn T:
That's a good idea gut
