Life on the Farm

Pat B:
Brian, my back first went out in the spring of 1990, just as we were about to start building our mountain house. My wife came to the mountains to get the ball rolling; putting in the driveway, lot clearing, well, house foundation, etc while I laid on my back in Coastal South Carolina. I've had 2 serious bouts with my back and sciatica and physical therapy got me through both times. I know too many folks that are still suffering after multiple surgeries. That would be the absolute last resort for me.
Keep at it if you can. A bit more red on those beautiful arrows is in your future.  :OK

Thanks guys for all the encouragement with the physical therapy. I definitely plan on continuing my exercises.

GlisGlis I couldn’t get it done before gun season. Just didnt happen.

Yesterday was opening day gun. I did take my old Mossberg out.

Today I just felt like I was going to shoot one with a stone point. I could just feel it. I could almost see it.

I decided to take my bow and no gun. It was a really nice day to sit in my favorite tree by my pond. I got there about 11:00am and settled in.

I saw deer but to far away. I just was enjoying my hunt. I knew I was going to shoot a deer with a stone point .

At about 4:30 I saw two small doe come from behind me, just like I was hoping they would. I thought about turning to try for a shot. They were close enough but I didn’t like the angle and I was afraid they would see me draw on them.

One went down the bank of my pond and drank from it while the other watched from above. Then the one drinking climbed the bank and the other went down for a drink. The first one passed through my path and shooting lane. I started to draw but it I it was looking right through me and if I moved that much it was going to see me.

I froze in a good position for a shot at the second one if it took the same path. It did just like I saw it before my hunt even began.

I watched my stone point rivercane two fletch go exactly where I was looking. It looked like it got really good penetration. The deer darted off down the trail between the trees.

I text my son who was hunting with his gun about a mile away.

Before I finished my text I looked up to see the deer had circled around and crashed trough the phragmites and dove into my pond. It trashed around in the phragmites for awhile then it stopped. Once and awhile I saw the phragmites move. I thought it was going to die right there. After about six or seven minutes it crawled up the side of my pond and walked about 150’ away and laid down. I saw it lay down but I couldn’t see it after it laid down.

I waited a hour before I got out of my tree. I went to my beach and waited another two hours. I went back to the area I saw it lay down but it wasn’t there. I couldn’t find any blood either.

It still had arrow in when I saw it lay down. I couldn’t have placed it any better if I could walk up to it and stick it in by hand. No exit hole and very poor blood trail. I couldn’t quite get to full draw but I think I got good penetration. I think it is probably like my second buck and bleeding internally. I think it’s probably laying close by dead as I type, but if it is now then it probably still will be tomorrow morning. I backed out and I will look tomorrow.

Wish I had pappy’s dog

I didn’t find em pappy. I’m actually still looking but it’s gonna take a miracle.

I have been looking hard. No sign. No exit hole and no blood.

I couldn’t find my arrow which was still in him last time I saw.

It’s all tangled up dead ash trees and a million places to lay down and die. I’ve been crawling over and under trees looking.

Pappy:
Hope it works out, go where you think it wouldn’t, don’t know how many I have found after all hope was gone and just gave it one last look. Good luck and a little prayer I alway say “Lord give me eyes to see and ears to hear “ it helps I am sure of that. Pappy
