Machine/Tool/Welding
bjrogg:
Any skill you can learn is useful and in demand. Plumber, welders, electricians, construction.
Always take advantage of the opportunity to learn a new one

Years ago and older widowed friend met a lady he liked, married her and moved into her lake house, his house and shop were full of stuff. He mentioned that had a small Lincoln stick welder in his shop that was getting rid of, I offered to buy it. He said he needed help loading stuff on his truck to move so I drove over to help with money in my pocket for the welder. We loaded his stuff and I pulled out my cash and made him an offer on the welder, he refused to take it and gave me the welder for free. That was the way he was, his opulent house was fully furnished with everything from silverware to TVs, he called a charity and offered them the contents which they gladly accepted.
Now, I can't weld but I can stick things together, in the past if I broke a part on my tractor equipment I had to take it some where to get it repaired. After my friend gave me the welder I have fixed all of my broken stuff quickly and easily. His gift turned out to be one of the best I have ever received.
I have a granddaughter who always liked to make things in my shop, one day I said "Taylor, want to learn how to weld"? she never turned down any offer to learn something so off to the shop we went. She actually picked it up pretty quickly, she is probably the only downtown Nashville city girl that can weld a little, she was 14 then and 26 now.

Very nice Eric! My two oldest gkids are only interested in electonics and legos. The other 5 gkids like to be outside more. One who is not close by currently need to get into something like welding or other hand crafting to keep his mind challenged and occupied.
White Falcon:
That is great.
Russ:
Very cool story Eric! That was a very good thing you did for your granddaughter!
Here is the hammer handle I made on the lathe
