2022 Bow Trade - complete

Stickhead:
Lookin’ good, Dave!

Kidder:
Not to be outdone by Superdav95’s progress I got at it. Got it tillered to 50lbs at 27.5 inches. I left the bottom limb slightly stiff in the mid as there was it had the remnants of a knot there. I may still open that up a bit. Shot it in this morning - shoots very soft and quiet. So far it’s got a little string follow it picked up immediately after unstringing and we will have to see where it sit in an hour or so. Shot it through the chrono at 155-158 fps at around 27 inches  with my hunting arrows (right around 10 gpp). I’m will say that yellow heart is very interesting wood. I read a number of articles and posts about it going into it and heard everything from it being very stiff and elastic and dense to light, soft, but still elastic. The piece I have is definitely lighter and softer - probably a lot like yew for weight and hardness. Sands extremely easily much like ERC. Almost feels like shooting a rubber band. Overall seems to be an ok wood. For my second bow build I had a change of plans. Going with a boo yew instead of a yew self bow. Got it glued up and ready to come off the form today.

Haha. Nicely done. You got after it for sure!  Looks great btw.  I’m gonna do up a bamboo bow next myself as a option for the trade also. I may just build it and see what guys think and decide then which to give in the trade.

Cheers

I realized yesterday that I had to get back to building bows to complete my trade bow!  I took a break of a couple months from making bows to concentrate on finishing a from-scratch fiddle that I have been working on for a little over a year.  Finished the fiddle Saturday, cleaned the workshop, put away the luthier tools, and got out the bamboo-osage blank I glued up recently.  Should be a nice looking bow.  I used the cut-offs from the bocote riser to make the tip overlays and got the bow to floor tiller.  Will put it on the tillering tree this week and hopefully shoot it before the end of the week.
