Can you scrape down shoot shafts to reduce spine

(1/2) > >>

Dante_F:
Basically just what the title says, I'm sure it probably does work but I'd like to know if anyone else has any experience reducing the diameter of shoot shafts in order to get a lower spine.

Pat B:
Yes, definitely. I use a cheap thumb plane to reduce the diameter which reduces the spine. You can also sand the shoot to do the same. Chuck the shoot in a drill and hold sandpaper on it while spinning.

Pappy:
Like Pat said i use a thumb plane to get close to size then a scrapper and sand paper to get them just where i want them, I try to give them a slight taper from knock end to point end. Point end being a little larger.  :)

BowEd:
The fellas are right. On most shoot shafts try to keep your full length taper. It'll be more forgiving off your bow.
I use the old stick it in the chuck of the speed drill method using sand paper.

Dante_F:
Thanks for the advice, ill be sure to take it slow and be careful with the reduction.
