Here is another pic of a Plain's style quiver that might be easier to see the details of construction.

How does one protect the quiver against sharp broadheads?

You can add a piece of foam that fits the contour of the bottom of the quiver that would hold and protect the broadheads...and the carrier.

I made one where I put a pocket of rawhide in the bottom. It protects well against broadheads. Sewed it in wet and stuffed it until it dried so that it forms an open cup in the bottom.
