Reddish purple inner growth ring on osage stave
George Tsoukalas:
Isn't purple the ultimate end color of osage over the years. Jawge
BowEd:
Yep,but that usually happens to the outside sun exposed layer over time. This is an inside ring not exposed to the sun.

One stave that has a purple back from the dead logs is a 50 inch stave that I am making into a horse style bow. I have it off the form ,and ready to tiller. I am going to push it get 25 inches of draw even if it turns out lower poundage. It has near 3 inches of reflex before tillering. If it works OK, and if not I tried.
