Birthday bow - Osage with sturgeon 30# at 25”
Kidder:
I’ve been waiting a couple months to post this bow which was put away as a 9th birthday gift for my oldest. Today finally came, so here it is. It’s Osage with sturgeon skin backing. Tips are Buffalo horn. The handle is dyed veg ram leather stitched with a baseball stitch. It came from a very narrow pair of belly split billets from a stave from Illinois. The widest part of the limb was barely an inch wide. It had lots of issues and required more heat correction than I have had to do in the past. The side of one limb still shows some darkening from the heat corrections (lessons learned, but it’s only cosmetic). The tips were boiled to flip. It was also difficult for me to tiller with all the character. I shot it through the chrono after the build was over and was blown away that I was getting over 160 fps, albeit with light kids arrows. It’s a little stiff for him and he can’t quite get it to full draw yet, but I’m sure he’ll grow into it. Overall I’m probably prouder of this bow than any of my others. Thanks for looking.

Sweet bow! You've got to love the sturgeon skin...it is flat out amazing!
I bet the young man will be happy with that! Get the archery into the blood whilst they are young and it stays for a lifetime!
Pat B:
Excellent bow, Kidder and just right for your son to grow into. :OK
PaSteve:
You have every right to be proud of that bow, Kidder. You did an awesome job. That last picture says it all.
Hamish:
Coolest present ever. Lucky kid. At the moment he knows its a really cool bow.
He won't fully realise how cool of bow it really is until he's much older. This is the kind of present that will stay with him forever, even when he physically outgrows it.
What a top Dad you are.
