recommendations for finishing

This is a youth bow i made for practice for my 11 year old neighbor. It is 54"x1.5" 24lbs @19" made from a white oak stave. The back is sapwood sanded smooth and the tips were steam bent in to a recurve. The bow is sanded and tillered.
What is the next recommended order of steps to finish? This is my guess.
1. string and shoot 100 times
2. stain and varnish
3. apply string nocks to back
4. apply leather handle

I think I would make the string nocks before shooting and staining.  Assuming the string follow is correct.

I’m with hawk dancer.   Add the nock backings before shooting then stain and varnish.  I’ve had good luck with tung oil as first coat then several layers of tru oil.  Also have used spar varnish on my hunting bows in Matt finish instead of the tru oil.   I use alcohol based stains for more vibrant Colors.  For hunting I’ll stick with earthy color stains.  Best of luck.

Looks like you have cut in nocks. This will work just fine. No need for anything else.

I assume you have strung it?

You said it was tillered.

I shoot  my bows 3 don times. Then finish.

You could stain it. Then finish with polyacrylic or spar urethane.

Lately I have been using  3 coats of crazy glue, and buffing between coats. Works great. Then outside in the summer I apply min wax poly.
