Fire hardening black locust

(1/1)

bluejack:
Hello all, I`m relatively new to this bow building affliction(learning as I go-lots of help from Will B.-member here on PA) Does anyone have experience fire hardening black locust,if so do you think it`s a good idea? Thanks, bluejack

Pat B:
In my experience heat treating locust is a big plus as far as increasing it compression strength. My experience with heat treating locust has been with Eastern Woodland style bows.

bluejack:
Thanks Pat-I`m going to give it a try.

Pat B:
Don't forget to post pics.   :OK

From the different wood that I have tried, but not locust, it worked best with hickory.  It makes quite the bow that rivals Osage in some cases.
