Standing dead wood

(1/1)

Muskyman:
My next door neighbor says he has a standing red elm tree on his property I can have if I want it..
two questions here. One is it good bow wood and is it still viable if it’s been dead for a few years.

gutpile:
it depends.. elm is very hard.. Locust and osage bows have been made from 100 year old fence posts.. its free might be work a try.. elm wont split like osage and locust..gut

bownarra:
I'd be very wary. Elm deteriorates very quickly in the elements. Don't put much workj into getting the wood, still it burns pretty well if its brittle.

Pat B:
I'd say it's no good for bow wood. Whitewoods deteriorate quickly after they die. Might make good firewood though.

Muskyman:
Well that’s kinda what I figured but, I do burn lots of wood in the winter so I guess it’s a win win.
