Ugly twang on R/D Recurve self bows...
bradsmith2010:
then put ear plugs in your ears :) problem solved
Eric Krewson:
I get a lot of "twang" when I use D-97 for strings, not so much with B-55, I prefer D-97 so I add silencers.

Eric I argued with Rick Barby about B50 string noise vs D97 . I swore B50 was more quiet . He finally got a decimal meter. I was wrong. The B50 just has a lower tone.
Badger:
How much set did the bow take from it's original shape? I have found if a bow has taken too much set it twangs..

Oooo, the ear plug idea sounds like another good idea!
My latest attempt has seen me slightly raise the brace height - to about 6.375” or so - and I have added fur string silencers. The twang has dropped considerably, so much so that it is much more manageable.
Badger, as for set, the bow has registered about 1/2” to 5/8”. It is one of my lower set bows. I would post pix, but, shamefully so, I have yet to figure that out yet. I have tried all of the tutorials and everything, done it on a computer and not a phone, etc., & I just cannot seem to do it. Ridiculous, but sadly true.
We’re you thinking it might be a set issue? I go crazy slow with my tillering and have managed very low set over my past 5 or 6 bows. One of the things that helped me was that I was too caught up in the stuff out limb idea...and I think I wasn’t allowing for enough bend there. And so my bow limbs took more set than they should have in the outer limb, being that they were thicker there then they should have been.
