Discovery of a site

While on spring break from the college I camped in southern Illinois. During my trip I made the discovery of primitive pottery, chert objects and bone fragments. These items were unearthed by an animal digging burrow under a large rock. I took lots of photos and researched what my next move would be by reading the State of Illinois archaeological web page. As required by the state of Illinois, I contacted the coroner and the deputy sheriff. We met later that afternoon, documenting the site again with photographs and a scale and took GPS location. This information was forwarded on to the Illinois state archaeologist. It'll be interesting to see what information comes from the discovery. It was truly amazing to be part of this process.

Pappy:
Cool, be interesting to know what the site is. :)

Hawkdancer:
Great find!  That region is likely part of the Cahokia culture, and important to the timeline!  Do keep us posted.
