Osage Flatbow Layout(s)?

CrazyHorse1969:
Hello, folks:
Starting a new bow build soon, and I am interested in hearing thoughts on Osage flatbow layouts. I have a 61" Osage stave (hoping for a 60" tip-to-tip bow), 1-3/4" wide at the center, and I am shooting for around a 45# draw weight bow at my 25" draw length. I will probably at least flip the tips if not altogether recurve them. I, too, have both antelope rawhide backing and deer sinew backing to back the bow if needed, but I do not plan on using them, only if I run into issues.
Thanks!

1 3/4” inches is pretty wide for what you are looking to accomplish. I’d go no wider than 1 1/2”. I’m sure it can be done just fine but that would be my choice. Good luck!

Thanks. I should have been more clear. The 1-3/4" wide measurement is what I have to work with on the stave. In other words, that is the maximum width measurement at the center of the stave before I begin the layout.

I have similar bow weight, and length Osage bows.  Mine always seem to end up at 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 wide coming off the fades to slightly under 1/2  wide at the tips.

Thanks. You measure a 4" handle? Each fade 1-1/2" long?
