I have made quite a few black walnut clean sapling bows. I have only ever backed 1 with sinew, but with heavy belly heat treat, and a slightly trapped back it worked fine for me. My married son really liked it, so I gave it to him. Wish you luck with yours.

Sharp lookin bow. How much sinew did you end up adding? Did you do any fire hardening or heat treating on the belly? Just curious
