Dave, I think rawhide ist the best you can do to any yew bow. It protects the sensitive sapwood from mechanical damage in rough use and protects it from drying out. But especially it gives you a good protection for breaking over the back - In my experience - if yew fails - its almost always breaking over the back. This risk is minimized to almost zero with rawhide. One should do it on every yew bow except elbs imho.
