abo bopper

I was messing around with a forked elk antler and wondered if I could make an aboriginal "bopper" out of it and a stone.  I found a suitable river stone that almost fit the fork and started grinding and sanding until the stone almost fit.   I slopped a bunch of thick hide glue in the fork and wedged the rock in place.  Then I soaked some rawhide and wrapped the wet rawhide tightly around the stone.  I then brushed some more hide glue on the outside of the rawhide.  When it dried, I tried it out.  It works great.  The added speed that the length of antler adds to the rock is amazing.  You can take some really neat, thin flakes with it.  Try this with either an antler or an old "Slingshot" fork out of a sapling.

Thanks, David.  I am always trying to figure out ways to make knapping a little easier and still stay "Primitive."
