One for the new guy

It’s been awhile since I had a chance to do much knapping. I have had a lot of unexpected work come up but I’m finally getting caught up for the moment.

My brother and I are getting older and we decided that we could really use some younger blood to help us. We hired a young man fresh out of high school this summer. He has worked part time on several farms over the years and we are getting along really well. Man it’s nice to have a young buck who can do the stuff that we really struggle with as we’ve aged.

It’s been good for everyone. He’s been very respectful and so have we. He always says how easy we make everything look and we tell him the same when he’s doing the jobs we struggle with.

My brother and I are hoping he sticks around for a long time. We don’t have a big financial package but we are doing what we can to keep him happy and healthy.

I decided to show him our appreciation by giving him a little Christmas bonus.

That looks really good, Brian.  What’s with those big blades in the background of that first picture?  Look like real beauties.

bjrogg:
Thanks Steve.

Wish I could take credit for even one of those big blades. Those are from a flint knapping calendar that is sitting on my desk. They definitely keep me humble

PS thanks for replying. I couldn’t even see my post until you replied.

Hey BJ. Nice knife. Great Christmas present for your young hand! It'll be a prized possession for the fella.

Thanks Mike.

Went to see our grandson yesterday and didn’t get to our shop.

This morning I found two Carhartt Tee shirts with pockets and personalized with my name and a picture of my favorite farm truck and our farm name.

That’s pretty cool gift from him to my brother and I. Hope he stays around and happy.

It’s tough hiring someone for this job.

A old timer once told me in this profession you just can’t pay a good man good enough and you can’t pay a poor man poor enough. You just gotta hope they like it
