Osage selfbow w/ broad-banded water snakeskins
Will B:
I finished this Osage selfbow for a friend who invited me to hunt Osceola turkeys on his place in Florida. The bow is 68" ntn and 42#@ 28". It is 1-1/2" wide at the fades and maintains that width for the first 12", then straight taper to 3/8" tips. It has a 4" (stiff) handle with 2" fades.
I wrapped the handle with black leather from a scrap pile I like to dig through at an Amish saddle shop near where I live.
The tip overlays are from buffalo horn. I finished the bow with seven coats of rubbed on Tru oil and a finish spray coat of satin Spar Urethane to dull the finish.
I glued on some broad-banded watersnake skins using TB3 and stained the end of the limbs with Fiebings dark brown and black leather dye.
The bow shoots nice with no noticeable hand shock. Thanks for looking.
