Horn bow x 2 build along.
Pat B:
More beautiful work, Dave. What will you use as a spacer where the Horn meets at the handle?

Thanks Pat! Ya I’ll likely use a small section of white bone or antler piece in there. Should work fine and look good.

ok... so after a long wait, too long a wait i finally started back up on these two bows. I had moved across the country before christmas 2025 and it took all of my spare time getting the new place where we needed it to be. I am still working on my shop though....anyway I got them worked down to final dimensions as far s the core and horn is concerned. I added the "celik" bone piece between the horn slots at mid handle. i grooved the entire bow core in prep for sinew. I used a old fine toothed hacksaw to do this. works well. I then warmed up the wood core lightly and sized coated the core back with thin sinew/sturgeon glue. l like to use a 25-30% mix for sinew. of this 30%, 10% is sturgeon an 20% is sinew glue. I find that my homemade sinew scrap glue is superior to store bought hide glue. not sure why this is but it is. the glue seems lighter and cleaner in color as well. most of the scrap pieces of sinew i render down is stripped leg tendon from elk deer and moose. the sturgeon bladder glue is also very high quality and also adds more flex and increased working time. In the next few days ill start with my sinew. My goal for these bows is to have one be 50-60lbs at 30" and the other at 70-80lbs at 30". we shall see. thanks for looking and your patience.
