Moisture meters

<< < (2/2)

JW_Halverson:
Yeah, I bought an inexpensive moisture meter when I was pretty new at this and I regretted the waste of precious and hard won dollars relatively quickly. You really cannot control moisture inside a stave and have no real way to "fine tune" relative humidity barring some incredibly expensive temperature/pressure/humidity controlling chambers.

Spend NO MORE than $20 on a kitchen scale that weighs in increments down to half a gram. Weigh the wood and record the weights on a regular basis until the wood stops losing weight, or maybe even gains a little and loses that. At that point you are at equilibrium with your local conditions.

That reminds me, I got a STUPIDLY AWESOME Eastern red cedar stave a month or so ago and it needs to be weighed again. BYE!
