Bhutanese Bamboo Bows / dimensions ?

<< < (2/2)

jameswoodmot:
Just give them a call and tell them the dimensions you need and they’ll be able to sell you a suitable pole.
This is an off cut from another project that is from them.

3/4” is too thick for a limb

legend:
That looks the perfect section / piece of bamboo ! is it Mosso ? So by what you say a thickness between  1/2"  and 5/8" would be the ideal ?

legend:
I have now actually tried many outlets for the right size bamboo here in the UK and believe it or not its quite difficult to source . I have tried jameswoodmot suggestion for UK Bamboo supplies and you have to buy a minimum of three or six lengths  ( I cant remember now ) which I dont need and the price with delivery outweighed the project I had in mind ! I am sure when I enquired the thickness was only 1cm which is not enough after sanding and finishing . After seeing an article about an American guy who made a Bhutanese bow from an Osage stave I am toying with the idea of finding an Ash board with the right grain and making one from that ! Cant see any real problems unless any member on here can see any ?
