Embarrassing pop up ads

WhistlingBadger:
This one's for the Powers:

I know ad revenue is important and I'm willing to put up with the ads.  But is there some way we can be more selective about what ads we see?  About half the ads that pop up are of the "This scantily dressed lady is a feast for the eyes" variety.  Come on, I have enough difficulty concentrating on anything as it is.   :o  Plus, sometimes I check the boards at work, and that kind of thing doesn't go over well at an elementary school.  And, well, dangit, I think Mrs. Badger is pretty cute and I don't want to be tempted to take a peek at anybody else.  It sure as heck isn't why I come here.

Any way we can limit our ads to be more family-friendly, in keeping with the board's stated policies?  I'd sure appreciate it.

Sleek was saying that some of the necessary updates would run a few thousand, but he seemed reluctant to engage in crowdsourcing the shekels necessary.

I think it's time the community start talking about what is most important to us AND what is standing between this forum and the tens of thousands of former and potential new users.

JW is correct, its will cost a decent amount to get the forum updated. I am reluctant to ask anyone here for money for one big reason. Others people money is a very big responsibility. While I can guarantee the site will improve in many ways, I cant promise these ads will go away with this update. Im told they should but thats not the 100% answer I need to take on risking other folks money. The way I look at it, if im not willing to put my money in it, I have no business even thinking about asking members to pitch in. So, Im going to get these updates done, but only with my money, and that takes me time. Im hoping to have this forum updated and ad free by the end of this year. Thats my goal.

I understand your concerns, im very sorry for the trouble you are experiencing, and I will get it fixed. Unfortunately, its not going to be fast.

WhistlingBadger:
Thanks Sleek (and JW).  I appreciate you putting your own money into this.  If you change your mind and decide to solicit help, I'm pretty sure you'll find some.  I can live with the ads; I just thought I'd ask.  They definitely detract from the experience of being here.  Maybe some people enjoy them... ;D

But what if people value this forum enough that they feel they want to participate in the improvement? By turning them down you rob them of the joy they feel in participation. Sit with that a moment when you get the time, buddy.
