How many inches of backset is that adding?

Pat B:
3" to 4". You don't want to add much more than that because the strain can negate the added reflex.
Having the back on the caul allows you to make lateral adjustments.
I usually start in the center and work out each limb on at a time then I go over the entire bow slightly scorching the belly then give it a few days in the caul to cool completely and rehydrate.

It’s a pretty awesome feeling when you let an arrow fly from your first Selfbow.

I can still see my first shot in my head.

Congratulations and I’m guessing it won’t be your last.

PS
I brought an older post back to give you some ideas how to practice with scraps. It titled “Starting Small “

Awesome!  I'm going to make one this week so I can have it on hand when making my next bow. I think I'll pull out an old hickory board bow that I started but never finished and but some backset into it.

I've probably got close to 100 shots through my bow and I'm pretty shocked it's still in one piece. Haven't heard any ticks or felt any splinters raise, so it may last a little longer than I thought.

I'll have to check that thread out! I'm sure I'll find a lot of value in it.
