Yew (rawhide backed), 45# @ 28"
« on: March 26, 2026, 09:04:55 am »
Almost a selfbow: a Pacific yew bow backed with goat rawhide, 45# @ 28". The back had a few minor flaws, and because of the quite dry climate here in Finland I wanted to be safe, so I decided to back it.

Length is 186 cm nock to nock, and the width is 32 mm at the handle. White horn nocks. The handle is wrapped in green cotton velvet. Physical weight is 596 grams.

The bow has a silk string made from red filament silk, 44 strands, with a breaking strength of 315# and a weight of 123 grains.

The bow had natural deflex, and it is now about two inches deflexed. This is going to be my American Round competition bow for this season.

The bow shoots nicely, but it is a bit slow compared to my high-performance laminated bows, which I am used to. Still, it will be great to finally shoot an American Round with fully natural, period-correct equipment.

So graceful and elegant!
