His "Thorn Apple" Self Bow Takes the Honors for July
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,7884.0.htmlHere's the narrative:
Here's a bow I just finished up. Its 64" ntn and pulls 50#@27" It is made of Thorn apple which I think is the same thing as hawthorn? I could be wrong though. Anyways, I cut this tree on my mothers property and thought it would be pretty cool to harvest a deer with it there this fall. Who knows, the deer I will take may have eaten the fruit from the very tree I used to make this bow....  I'm pretty impressed with this apple as a bow wood its very dense hard wood and heat treats well. It holds about a inch of unstrung reflex and the tips are very narrow. It has a good cast and smooth draw. The grip is wrapped with rattan from PatB Thanks Pat!   It is dyed with two differant colors of leather dye to give a good camo effect. Hope you enjoy! Alll coments welcomed. Ryano

The dye job on this bow really got everyone's attention.-"Thats a pretty bow Ryan!  It has nice curves and stain job is great!"- Far East Archer
-"Great lookin bow Ryan, I like the stain job you did on the bow itself too, very cool. That bow oughta make meat, it's got some good mojo."- Dano
-"Great looking bow Ryan. Your bows have a very distinct "Ryano" look to them that is very pleasing to look at. the shape looks excellent"- twistedlimbs
-"Great job Ryan You've been using a lot off different woods for bows and they all seem to make beauties for you. Well done."
