D tiller, i made a wooden sheath once. took 2 oak blanks 1/4 " thick, laid the knife on what would be the inside of each, marked it out, then chiseled away the wood until the knife would sit in nicely and the two slats would join with clean lines. After that, glue em together: just don't go crazy with the glue on the inside, cuz you don't want it to leak into the hollow.

I finished both of mine today. I need to send them off before I keep them. ;D Are we going to post pictures as we finish them and not say who they are going to? That way , maybe giving everybody an idea what might be heading their way, but not knowing who is getting what, and making it an agonizing mystery. You guy's decide an if yes, I'll post them tomorrow.

As long as the pics get posted, I don't see a problem with everybody else wondering. The recipient needs to chime in and rub it in when they are received.
mullet:
I'll take them tomorrow then, by the way, making sheaths, sucks. ;)

Just finished the first obsidian blade for the neck knife I'm making. I will be putting the the sheath and handle on it some time in the next week or so. I will try and get the next blade made soon. I'm thinking of hafting the blade into a yew wood handle or VG fir one. The sheath will be wood too with a special toggle to go on a sling for wearing around the neck. Don't know how I will get a strong enough friction fit on the obsidian blade to keep it in the sheath. Any ideas? Was aiming for a larger sized knife next but this cold is getting me down! :'(
