The back of the bow does look kind of like musclewood.  The hop hornbeam I had wasn't very "muscly".  But I'm sure there are differences form tree to tree.

Ya Lennie I done it about like Hickory as far as keeping it dry, even tho I don't think from what I have seen it is near as critical as Hickory. It is Hhb,I have some ,what we call muscle wood
[ Blue Beach] but have never found a piece close to straight enough for a bow and I work with some pretty crooked stuff. ;) :) Thanks for the complaments I appreciate it a lot.  :) I'm with

Really nice bow Pappy! Did you steam or heat gun? I've got a half log that tried to corkscrew but I plan on steaming it straight.

I like the stiff tips and tiller on that one.  I'll bet it has good cast.  Jim

I used dry heat Tracy, but I am sure steam would work also. This one was pretty twisted and heat took it out very easily. It dose shoot hard Jim. I flipped the tips just lightly on it,I do that to most
of mine ,just done this one a little less.I am sure it will do the job John,if I can. :) ;) ;D
