very nice.....what is the small bottom notch for?

There has been a lot of speculation on that bottom notch. Personaly I think they hafted it to a pointed tip on a fore shaft then lightly sinewed it in place. They then used it in warfare and when a person was hit with it and it penetrated it would fall away from the shaft and lodge in the body. When the shaft was removed the point would stay behind! OUCH!

if you use stone tools to make your arrows it is easier to cut edges rather than flat surfaces. the notch for the head will have a small peak. that notch fits over the peak and helps center the head on the arrow. the most important thing when mounting the head is to make sure it seats very securely in the notch. if there is pitch behind it the pitch will crumble on impact and the head will loosen and slow penetration . very nice point. peace
