Jimmy Blackmon's Hackberry is September's Self BOM
OldBow:
Congratulations to Jimmy Blackmon of Clarksville, Tennessee
His Meat-Getting Hackberry "Hammer"
is Self Bow of the Month for Septemberhttp://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,8940.0.htmlHere's How Jimmy Made This Bow:
The tip overlays are Burmese Red Wood. I coated the bow in Red Mahogany stain then sanded it until the stain was still in the
grain then coated it in a tung oil / Linseed oil mix and finished with Tru-oil. It is a pyramid but once I finished it I increased the
taper at the end of the limbs. I took the nocks down even more this morning so they are thin but note as much as some I've seen.
It was a straight pyramid to begin with and the tips were laid out 1/2" but now the nocks are 3/8" right in the middle. It's 1.5" at the fades. It's 61" nock to nock and pulls 50# @ 27"
Praise for this bow is very deserved:
