My biggest buck ever...selfbow kill.
Hillbilly:
Damn, Ryan-that's a beast. And a half. Congratulations, deer like that are few and far between!
Key:
Good job!
Ryano:
Thanks guys. I'm a still a little bit in shock. I got him yesterday morning about 9:00am Had been sitting in my tree stand all morning in the rain and around 39 degree's with about 30 mile an hour winds. About 8:30 or so I was about ready to give up for the day and call it quits and go home and get warm, but I kept telling myself its the best time of the year, you need to stay in the woods as long as possible. Well about a half hour later I noticed some movement behind my tree stand and it was already to close to stand up for fear of spooking what ever it was. So I held perfectly still just turning my head to look thinking I could get a shot sitting down if nessasary if the deer continued down the trail it was on it would be about a 5 yard broad side shot. Well when he poked his head up over the creek bank all I saw was he had a good rack and then I stoped looking at the horns and started trying to visualize the shot. Well he got about 2 steps away from my shooting lane and locked up. He began checking the wind and actualy looked up at me briefly. He didnt see me but he definetley got my wind. He started to back up real slow and proceeded to turn around and head back out the way he came in but not before stoping briefly under a helock tree giving the time I needed to stand up and get my bow pointed in his direction. He then took about two more steps and was in the open quarting away about 12 to 15 yards. I came to full draw and released my Ramin wood arrow tipped with a 125 magnus head and it met its mark true. It hit him about three ribs up from the back and angled forward striking a rib on the other side near the shoulder blade. He ran about 80 to 100 yards. Not a easy tracking job as there was very little blood with no exit hole and the wet leaves make it really hard to see the blood that is there. Well I had called a good hunting buddie as soon as I hit him asking for some help tracking him. I had made it to the point I had last seen him from my stand when my buddie called to tell me he was at my truck. So I decided to mark the blood and go after him for help. Well on my way out to find him I looked up on the creek back and there he was not 30 from where I had just quit tracking. I screamed like a little kid with excitement! He was much bigger than I had even realized. Wow what a day, what a hunt. I will remember it for the rest of my life.

GregB:
That's a cool story Ryan! I'm proud for you that you got him! Have you weighed him yet? What was the inside spread on him?
Ryano:
Greg, I didnt weigh him got no way to weigh one that heavy and I skinned him and caped him out last night. I'd guess him between 180 and 200 field dressed. Its got a 17 1/2" inside spread, over twenty on the outside. The two long top tines are 9" long.
