Why full compass? Better performace?

So I've done some more digging through and reading about.

I found out that victorian style english longbows are D Shaped, and english warbows are Full Compass.

Is it full compass because of the amount of draw weight required? Or does it give some sort of performance enhancement like hand shock?

I heard somewhere that the full compass shape is nicer to the wood when it comes to stress on the wood itself.

You are taking about 2 very different things, "D" shaped is the cross section nof the bow limbs and full compass is the shape of the arc at full draw, A bow that has been made full compass will give you better performance as the whole of the bow is being used to pack energy, where a Victorian style bow with a riser for a handle only uses the limbs themselves and not the handle area.

Also a well mae full compass bow will not give any hand shock at all.
