Who wants in on the arrow trade this year.
I'll draw names end of July ship date by Aug 31.
-
I'm in, Rob. :OK
-
Rob,
I’m in!
Hawkdancer
-
I’d like to get in. Ed
-
im in
-
I’m in if you’ll have me
-
The arrow I receive will go in my collection so spine weight isn't critical.
-
I'd like to be included. I've made arrows out of Walmart garden stakes, dowling, real river cane that I collected and yaupon collected here on my property. Non of them came out looking as nice as yours.
-
We're 10 shy of last year so far.
-
There have been 184 views.
We are all archers and bowyers but neither of those skills is worth a hoot without arrows. Everyone that builds and shoots bows should learn to make arrows, either the easy way with all store bought stuff or from scratch.
-
Already? It's been a year since the last one? Man, time flys.
I'm in for sure. Anything is good for me, it's for the growing collection from this trade.
-
Count me in !
-
I'll draw names on Sunday or Monday depending when we get done making hay
-
I'm gonna get in
-
I'll draw names tomorrow night
-
:OK
-
is this a trade for shooting arrows or display arrows? i really hope its shooting arrows. if it is ill contact my guy on the spine of the arrow
-
All arrows should be shootable. Whether they are correct spine or not will be the case. You can suggest your spine to your maker.
-
Pencil me in.
-
We have 12 so far I'll draw names tonight

Not exactly sure how this arrow trade works since it's my first time. Do I trade one or more of my arrows. If so, where do I mail it to? Field tip or flint that I chipped?
-
You only have to send one arrow but you can send as many as you want it can be a field point or a chipped point
-
...but it should be one you made yourself and not just one out of your quiver.
-
How's everyone coming along with their arrow
-
I've gotten a hill cane shaft almost straight enough to continue the build. I also have another "special" arrow I'm working on which may or may not work. ;)
-
im still trying to build my spine measurer (very technical term (lol))
-
Put 2 nails in the side of your work bench 26" apart. Then get a 2# weight you can hang in the middle of the shaft and match the deflection against a favorable shaft. This will get you started until you can come up with a more accurate spine tested.
I know where you can get plans to make a spine tester and get a weight/deflection table.
-
I've got my point knapped out & a viburnum shaft almost ready to put the point & feathers on
-
Got some cane drying and I have some Douglas fir shafts planed out
-
I have 2 arrows finished and packed ready to ship. Can we ship any time? If so these going to Hawkdancer will go out soon.
Jerry, I'll let you know when they are in the mail. A little extra something in the package for you. :OK
-
Sounds great! I'm in the thinking stage, long story! Trying to locate score sheets for my beginning intermediate archery classes! Got some red osier shafts nearly straightened, as well as a couple of other shafts. May have to get creative for Warpath with his long draw!
Hawkdancer
-
Work has been crazy gonna be making some arrows this week end will update
-
Pat you can ship anytime
-
:OK look out Jerry, here they come. Probably going out tomorrow. I'll let you know.
-
Got them Friday, finally got to open the package, and found two finished arrows and a bundle of hill cane! One hill cane arrow with a flint point and one sourwood with a field point! Pics here I hope! https://i.imgur.com/kH8XsJd_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium
Hawkdancer
-
I have a pine shaft osage footing flight arrow ready to finish and a pine shaft trade point sorry for no pictures yet
-
Jerry, the cane arrow has a 3 feather tangential style fletching and the sourwood arrow has that crook in it. Even though the sourwood has the crook it flew better from my bow than the cane arrow. I love crooked arrows! 8)
-
My trade partner has a long draw. So I’m still in the planning phase myself.
-
I've got a flint point on the arrow shaft just need to get some feathers put on it
-
Eric (High-Desert), sent you a private message for the arrow trade. I sent one yaupon arrow with steel hunting tip, a arrow straightening tool and two yaupon blanks for you to mess with. The more complete one was too heavy and I didn't feel like thinning it down. I don't have a spine tester but I do test the arrows I make by shooting them from a 49# bow.
-
I got my arrow in today’s out going mail. Ed
-
Folks, please post pics of your arrows when you receive them.
-
How's everyone coming along.
I plan on working on mine this weekend hope to finish.
-
"High-Desert", I checked USPS tracking and your arrow package was left at your front door yesterday 8-15-2019.
-
Hopefully, progress will improve now that I have 2 thumb planes! The older one got moved by the garage troll, and the only way to find it was to get another one! It only took 3 stops to get one at Lowe's! Set the new one down in the work area, for some reason, leaned over the bow bench and the old one was trying to hide under a bucket! Caught it! : >:D, and put a high visibility yellow leash on it! Btw, has anyone experimented with footer length! As in what would the maximum practical length be?

-
Got my arrow from backwoodsguy. It’s another awesome arrow to add to the collection. I will post pictures this weekend.
-
Here’s the arrow form backwoods guy. He send a couple extra shafts and an arrow straightener. Thanks backwoodsguy!
-
I finally finished up the arrow for cabinetbow guy. Will be in the mail tomorrow.
-
Mine will be shipping first of the week
-
Mine will be finished the 24th and sent on the 25th.
-
My arrow is out in the mail again, I messed up the address the first time. Ed
-
My two arrows will be headed out monday ! Will post pics before I ship them.
-
I should be able make deadline, but may ask for extension since I am going to be in NMLRA Range Officer. Training next weekend, just not sure what days yet (lol) :-M. Actually that only takes up 2 days (lol). I hope to ship by Wednesday!
Hawkdancer
-
Got my arrow today and it shoots really nicely! should be getting pictures tomorrow.
-
Great arrow! Shoots amazing! I feel bad because the arrowhead went straight through my target and hit the garden box in the back. The tip broke off. I feel bad but that just goes to say that ed can knap a good point! sorry about the point ed.
-
I’ll be finishing my arrow today and should be getting it out either during the week or next Saturday at the latest. Totally seasoned dogwood is dense but it’s the only thing I’ve got that’s to length for my recipient.
-
If anyone's not going to ship by the 31 leave me know
-
Managed to make a point today I’m happy with. Now all I have to do is bind it to the shaft.
-
Deerhunter21, I’m glad you shot it, and it shoots good. After all, that’s what it’s for (AT).
I dropped a new point, little pitch glue and some sinew, in the mail today.
Should be able to get it back in working order. Ed
-
That's the spirit, Ed. :OK
-
What Pat said
-
Thanks ed! that really means a lot to me!
-
I'm mailing off two arrows in the morning ! Don't want to spoil the surprise with to good of a photo I will let him put those up.
-
Looks nice
-
Just got back from elk hunting today, and I forgot to send out the arrow before I left last week. This time it will really be in the mail tomorrow.
-
you get anything? remember if you don't have pic it didn't happen!
-
Malfort, sorry about your family emergency and your phone loosing my messages on arrow specs and address. I sent you a private message to your mail box here at Primitive Archer with the info. The arrow was 32 1/2" tip to tip.
-
Ok, I lied >:D! Doesn't look like I will be able to ship until Tuesday! I'm late! I'm late for a very mportant date! Sorry, Warpath!
Hawkdancer
-
Mine went out today
-
Got mine shipped yesterday - eta is Friday. Warpath gets to post the pics!
Hawkdancer
-
Got mine from high desert a nice arrow !! Mines shipped as well
-
I'm late.
Early last week I had to trade a easy job three minutes from my house for a long hard job two hours away.
I already had a good start on the arrow so I took it with me thinking I could have it finished up and in the mail by deadline, but that didn't happen.
I was working in knee deep mud and waist deep water setting posts under a dock on Toledo Bend lake while the water is low, and it just about kilt me.
I managed to cut the feathers while there but that was all I got done on the arrow.
I'm back home now and will get back to work on the arrow, and will have it completed soon. It will take a couple days as I don't want to rush it and compromise quality for the sake of getting done any sooner.
Sorry for being late with your arrow Tower.
-
Damn! I hope you didn't have to deal with alligators waist deep, too! Of course, the Benjamins made it worth while, I hope!
Hawkdancer
-
Trapper,
Just sent you a PM.
Hawkdancer
-
Jerry I'll check & get back to you
-
Sorry for not getting this pic of the arrow Rob sent me. 2 feather tied down turkey feathers, small stone point hafted with pitch glue and sinew wrapped. Not sure what the shaft is but it is self nocked with sinew wrap.
Very nice arrow, Rob. Will make a great addition to my collection. :OK
Thanks Rob and thanks for running what seems like another successful PA Arrow Trade.

got my arrow all done. forgot to wear gloves and sliced my just a tad. still getting the sharpening angles down but id say that this arrow head is sharp enough. Ill try to get it to you sometime this week mafort.
-
Pat the shaft is viburnum
-
Thanks Rob. Do you know the species or common name?
-
I'm not sure Pat
I got a bunch of them from a guy in Maryland
-
I’ve got my arrow finished. Had trouble getting the spine just right but managed to get a shaft 3/8” in diameter and spined correctly. This Saturday it’ll be sent out with one day as my recipient has been waiting too long already. He’s got a really long draw length but I hope he likes the arrows anyway. Tracking will be provided to show proof. I’m sorry it took me so long guys.
-
I found some time to work on my arrow tonight.
Shaped the nock, tacked the fletchings in place and made enough yuca cordage to wrap down the fletchings with after I trim them to size and shape.
I should be able to get it finished up in the next couple of days.
-
Neat! That cordage looks like a lot of work! Methnks everyone who is/was late shipping(including me) shall receive 50 lashes with a cold, wet noodle!- or at least have to spring for a drink when we meet in person! >:D (lol) There are a bunch of good looking arrows in this trade!
Hawkdancer
-
Wish my fleching looked like that. Mine look spiky but i think spiky has its appeal. :)
-
thanks, the cordage turned out a little bigger than I really wanted it to.
I got the feathers and nock wrapped with sinew so I'm almost done.
-
quick question. how do you get the glue out of feathers? could I steam them?
-
Try acetone or fngernail polish remover, should work, be gentle, though. Best way is to not get the glue on the the feathers, but it happens to the best of us sometimes! >:D (lol)
Hawkdancer
-
K thanks. I wish it was a little bit of glue but the feathers are just coated, thats myfault though! :)
-
Might have to start over if they are really messed up! Of course, none of the rest of have ever done that >:D (lol)! I think the adage is: You can go to he** for lying, just like you can for stealing! However a mountain man wouldn't never lie about anything! >:D. If you need more feathers, pm me your contact info and I can send you some. If you go goose or turkey hunting, save the wings!!
Hawkdancer

I got a beat up box in the mail today. I was hoping to find my arrow in one piece. When I opened the box, I find four pieces, and all four are fletched and have practice tips. The front 2/3 is sporting burn rings every inch or so, while the back 1/3 is red, wild turkey feathers the cock feathers are dyed red. All wrapped with artificial sinew. The shaft I think is dowel, but I may be mistaken. Warpath these look awesome! Thank You! Ed
-
Got a beautiful arrow from Tower today.
-
I hope you like it.
I like my arrows long & thin fletched. To my understanding it’s traditional of the central Yx Natives
-
1442 should get his arrows Friday. They took a detour through Colorado! Had to get reroute get instructions!
Hawkdancer
-
Mine went out today. Hopefully they are liked. I made them a bit long
-
Hear! Hear! That 31 August ship date was a definite maybe! >:D (lol). Hope everyone has their arrow! Still need an arrow maker emoji! Now, to Make me an arrow, and finish the set I started last year! Who!? Me!? Procrastinate?! Nah!
Hawkdancer
-
Lol between 12 hour work days, trying to sign back up for school, and trying to get in better shape so I can apply for the police department I had a lot on my plate. I’m glad they got done though. Hopefully my guy really likes them.
